Our Stained Glass Series celebrates each of these remarkable stories through original artwork created especially for the Montessori community.
The Third Great Lesson — The Coming of Humans tells the story of humanity and the remarkable gifts that set us apart: a mind capable of imagining, hands capable of creating, and a heart capable of loving.
Look closely and you'll find pieces of the human story woven throughout the artwork—from fire, shelter, early tools, agriculture and domesticated animals to weaving, art, civilization, modern cities and exploration beyond our own world.
The story begins with our earliest ancestors, but it doesn't end there. Humanity continues to imagine, discover, build and create—and the children hearing this Great Lesson today will help determine what comes next.
This design began as part of an original series of nearly three-foot-tall stained-glass panels we created for a local Montessori school. This final design in the series will soon be produced by a stained-glass artist to match the other panels. We've adapted that original artwork into our Great Lessons apparel collection so Montessorians can carry these stories beyond the classroom.
